Stroll Into Fall on Second Saturday in Bay St. Louis Or Cruisin’ to Old Town

Celebrate the cool fall evenings with a stroll in Bay St. Louis on October 11th from 5 to 8 p.m. for the Second Saturday Art Walk in Old Town. Enjoy art, food, music and shopping in the historic Old Town area.

Proudest Monkey Paint Your Own Pottery, 131 Main Street, celebrates its birthday all day long. Stop in for birthday cake, piñata, balloons prizes and free “Monkey Jumping on the Bed” ornaments when you paint. The popular college band, The Crowd, will be performing from 5 to 7 p.m. courtesy of Hancock Bank. You can also paint a free Wavefest tile to be entered in the competition at Wavefest to win $ 50 to $ 100.

Social Chair is decked out for the holidays and will be giving away a “50’s Fashion Poodle Pin” to all registered Cruisers while supplies last.

Uptown Interiors is ready for fall with new shipments from Mississippi cheese straw company. Also, new to Uptown are fabulous pepper jelly's and jams from the Louisiana based company Ole Homestead. Beautiful ornaments are everywhere. Many new gifts lines are arriving daily so stop by to start Christmas shopping today!

Bay Books welcomes two authors. From 3 to 5 p.m. Gail Fusco, Pearlington native, takes readers back through coastal Hancock County and shares her childhood memories of the compassion and generosity of her maternal grandparents. From 5 to 7 p.m. Garden Mama Nellie Neal signs Questions and Answers for Deep South Gardeners and Organic Gardening Down South. Neal has been helping gardeners with advice in print and on radio weekly for 15 years.

At 126 Main Street in the Serenity Gallery at Maggie Mays one-of-a-kind art glass from Georgia artist Christie Moody and hand painted 100% silk swing jackets from California.

Twin Light Creations is falling into Cruisin. But the historic cottage and garden at 136 Main Street are filled with Christmas selections for home and garden. Come in and take a little of the light with you.

Love of the habitat along the Pearl River and the love of “plein air” painting brought three artists together late last spring -Rebecca Frost, Renee Mitchell and Carolyn Busenlener. The artists painted the river and bayous, the pines and the water lilies. This show in the Red Room of the Mockingbird Café at 110 S. Second Street is a record of their passion for "plein air".

In the other gallery spaces at Mockingbird a bevy of artists will be presenting their latest work. Artist and teacher Kat Fitzpatrick will display new floral and abstract encaustic (beeswax) paintings on wood. J.J. Foley has been combining elements of her dual passions for quilting and painting in her latest bold and beautiful acrylics. Ruth Robards Thompson has been examining the textural possibilities of wax versus cake frosting in her newest encaustic works. Encaustic artist Sue Louvier from New Orleans focuses on the natural world in her paintings. Hattiesburg resident Diane Chunn will show her most recent transcendent photographs as well as some encaustic/photographic collages. There will be much to see at the Mockingbird this month. This is a great opportunity to add to your art collection at reasonable prices. Enjoy the Rochelle Harper Band 7-11 at the outdoor bandstand under the stars.

Take part in our tradition of Tequila Tasting with donations to benefit the Hancock County Food Pantry at 212 Main Street.

Hot Spot in the 200 block is Sid Yoder Jewelry at the 220 Gallery. Music will be sponsored by Peoples Bank.

Hancock Chamber Business Expo Features $1000 Cash Give-Away and Lazy Magnolia Beer Tasting

At the Hancock Chamber Business Expo there is more than just 60 area businesses on tap.  This year the annual event features a $1,000 cash give-away and a chance to name your favorite Lazy Magnolia Brew during a German style “craft beer tasting” inside the Expo.

The event, set for Thursday, September 30 starts at 4pm and will run until 7pm at the MS Army Readiness Center on Kiln DeLisle Road next to the Hancock County Equine Facility.  The public is invited to attend and join in the festivities.

When you enter the Expo, there will be a $3 donation.  Upon entrance, you will receive a card inviting you to get your card stamped at ten hot spots inside the Expo.  The ten businesses featured this year include:  Accelerated Physical Therapy & Occupational Health, CJ’s Meat Market, Coastal Hardware & Rental Co., Diamondhead Country Club, Edmond Fahey Funeral Home, First National Merchant Solutions, Gulfside Association, Hancock Medical Center, Keesler Federal Credit Union, and the Library Foundation of Hancock County.  After you visit each of the ten prime spots, you can enter the $1,000 cash give-away.  The drawing will be at 7pm.  Last year, Dave Walker of Habitat for Humanity Bay-Waveland Area walked away as the $1,000 winner.

During the 10th anniversary event, you may also decide to participate in the Lazy Magnolia “Craft Beer Tasting”.  For a $10 donation, you are entitled to free entrance to the Expo, one sample of each of the five featured Lazy Magnolia Craft beers, entrance to the “Beer 101” session at 5:30pm, and one souvenir beer stein.

If you wish to participate in the People’s Choice Contest to name your favorite featured craft beer, Hancock Bank will offer you the opportunity to exchange cash for pennies to cast your votes.  Featured beers include:  Southern Pecan (the original pecan nut brown ale), Indian Summer (spiced wheat ale), Reb Ale (deep South pale ale), Jefferson Stout (sweet potato cream stout) and Southern Gold (honey ale).  The beer that receives the largest number of pennies will be named the winner of the People’s Choice Award.  The mission of this feature of the Expo is to showcase Mississippi’s first and only brewery located in Hancock County;  and, to educate the public in beer appreciation and quality.   Entertainment during the event features the Oompah-Pah Sounds of Jubilee Julie on the accordion, creating a German beer hall atmosphere.

This event is produced by the Hancock Chamber Kiln Business Council.  To book a booth or for more information, call 228-467-9048 or go to www.hancockchamber.org.
